1	Loss of vision and blurred vision	Vision can be defective to a variable degree. It may be easy to detect gross decrease in vision but it may be more difficult to detect subtle degree of loss of vision. It is very easy to miss gross loss of vision in one eye when the other eye is healthy unless one consciously tests each eye separately. 2	Double vision	Normally the image formed by the two eyes is coordinated into a single image by the brain. Two distinct images are seen once this coordination is disturbed due to various diseases involving the muscles of the eye and the nerves that control the same. 3	Adult Cataract In a healthy eye, light enters the eye and passes through a clear lens. In cataract, the lens becomes cloudy and blocks light from passing through. This causes blurred vision. Your doctor will remove your cloudy opaque lens and replace it with an artificial lens. This lens is called an “Intraocular Lens”, or an IOL. 4	Childhood Cataracts Cataracts are most common in adults. However, they can also affect babies and young kids. Because the eyes are still developing, cataract should be treated right away. Delaying the treatment can increase the risk of lazy eye.	The symptoms of the cataract are: 1. Poor vision 2. Rapid, uncontrolled eye movements (may look like shaking) 3. Eyes point in different directions 4. A white or grey pupillary reflex	Cataract surgery is the only treatment for cataracts. The earlier the surgery, the better the outcome. The pediatric ophthalmologist will remove the cloudy lens. During surgery, your child will be put under general anesthesia, meaning your child will be asleep so they don’t feel pain.	Cataract
5	Redness of the eye	Visible redness of one or both eyes is a common symptom pertaining to several varieties of diseases. One should not mistake every red-eye as having viral conjunctivitis.	Hence do not self medicate and delay seeking medical advice if you have a red eye. It could be something serious.	Common Eye Complaints
6	Stickiness of eyelids	A common symptom of infection in the eye is the stickiness of the eyelids due to discharge. This infection could be purely external or could be more serious.	Persistent stickiness of the eyelashes needs early evaluation.	Common Eye Complaints
7	Watering	Watering could be the result of a malalignment of the eyelids or eyelashes or a blockade of tear ducts that normally drain the tear fluid into the nose.	The presence of tearing in newborn babies can indicate a lack of patency of the tear ducts and may need attention.	Common Eye Complaints
8	Drooping of the eyelid	Drooping of the upper eyelid could be present at birth or could occur later. If the defect has occurred later in life one should note the frequency of the occurrence and in what part of the day it is more prominent. 9	Squinting of the eyes	Squinting indicates the misalignment of the eyes. In children, this can potentially lead to a reduction of vision in the squinting eye due to disuse (lazy eye).	When in doubt, taking photographs with flash can help identify the squint in the photographs. This is especially useful to the doctor, in the case of children who refuse to cooperate with the doctor for adequate examination.	Paediatric
10	Cornea Transplantation	Cornea transplantation is a surgery used to replace a damaged cornea with a healthy, donated one. Some surgeries remove the entire cornea, while others only remove a few parts. The surgery is used to treat a few different corneal diseases.	The cornea may be severely damaged by: 1.
