Overview
The Low Vision Clinic sees patients who are referred by the departments within the hospital as well as from outside practitioners, and provides the following services:
- Evaluating the degree of visual impairment and prescribing suitable low-vision aids and devices, and training in the use of these devices
- Demonstrating electronic low vision hardware and software
- Teaching the skills associated with the ability to be able to live independently
- Counselling on how best to adapt to visual impairment
Low vision is a condition of moderate to severe visual impairment, which makes every day tasks difficult. This conditions cannot be fully corrected by medical treatment, surgeries or conventional glasses.
A low vision center was established in Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital in 2004 (Supported by Sight Savers International). It has now become the leading service provider in the country. On an average about 200-250 patients are benefiting from the centre every month. Referral patients come for our services from all over the country.
We are also training Optometrist and Ophthalmologist from both home and abroad.
We have all the necessary vision assessment equipment for both paediatric and adult patients.
Diagnosis & Treatment
- Assessment of a low vision patient
- Record vision – Distance and Near (HCVA & LCVA) with Log MAR chart, Color vision Test, Amslar Grid Test and Functional Vision Assessment Test
- Refraction including cycloplegic refraction when needed
- Trial of Low Vision Devices (LVD)
- Counseling
– Guidance for appropriate education
– Vocational guidance
– Training in orientation and mobility
– Training in daily household task
– Self grooming - Vision stimulation
- Demonstration of special software like JAWS and MAGIC
- Linkage to other centers (Blind school, Rehabilitation and Social Welfare Department)
- Provide letter / certificate to the school teacher and education board for appearing in exam.

About
Working IIEI&H since 2007. Presently working as Assistant Professor cum Consultant at Department of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. After passing MBBS she received DO degree from Dhaka University in 2012. Subsequently she achieved honorable FCPS post-graduation degree from BCPS in January 2016. Then she completed a long term fellowship program in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus from IIEI&H in march 2019. She also working as in charge of Low Vision Clinic
Since then she continues to do pediatric cataract surgery and strabismus surgery regularly. She also spent her ophthalmic carrier in teaching of postgraduate students and medical practitioners. She has several publications in national journal to her credit. She is a member of OSB, BAPOS and WAPOS.Specialty
