Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital (IIEI&H), popularly known as Islamia eye hospital, was established in 1958 by the late M.A. Ispahani, an industrialist and Philanthropist. It began as a charitable dispensary at the beginning, developed over the last sixty years into the largest eye hospital in Bangladesh. Apart from its basic ophthalmic services, it also pioneered various territory ophthalmic super specialties. IIEI&H has matured over the period of time as one of the best eye care facilities of the country with the utmost dedication of a few members of the Ispahani family, doctors, nurses, and all associated clinical and non-clinical members.
At the same time, the IIEI&H started imparting hands-on training to increase the human resources capacity for ophthalmic services in Bangladesh. From this concept M.A Ispahani Institute of Ophthalmology was established as a sister concern of Islamia Eye Hospital in 1992 to teach advanced ophthalmology to ophthalmic surgeons as well as to paramedics and nurses. Over the years, Islamia has been established itself as a leading ophthalmic institute in Bangladesh for providing specialized services and offering various training courses.
With the motive of reaching out to more people, the management gradually decided to establish four branch hospitals across the country: namely Jamalpur, Barisal, Naogaon, & Kulaura. The concept of community service was conceived well and the branch hospitals with the support of 17 primary eye care centers (Vision Centers) have proven to be very effective in reaching out to the more underprivileged segment of society.
Over the last couple of years, Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute & Hospital has experienced tremendous growth. This has been possible due to the dedicated service of the doctors, the role of the management, and above all trust and confidence of the patients. Efforts will continue to grow further with the adaption of more contemporary technologies and equipment.
