Course Description:
Overall Description of the training
A. Cognitive Skills
- Should Know anatomy, physiology & common pathologies of Posterior segment
- Should have knowledge regarding the embryology of the human eye, in particular relating to the development of the retinal vasculature and the aetiology of ROP
- Should know intimate detail of the pathophysiology of ROP, including the risk factors for the development of the condition.
- Should have a basic idea of the optical principles of the slit lamp biomicroscope and the indirect ophthalmoscope.
- Should have knowledge regarding basic principles of posterior segment pharmacology, in particular to those used in ROP (including but not limited to tropicamide, phenylephrine, lubricants, antibiotic, steroids, anti VEGF)
- Should have an idea regarding the management of common retinal disease, and detailed knowledge regarding the principles of management of ROP and allied conditions
- Should have knowledge regarding differential diagnosis and management of ROP, including other causes of the white pupillary reflex (e.g. retinoblastoma, congenital cataract, persistent fetal vasculature, Coats’ disease, retinal detachment)
B. Technical Skills
- Should be familiar with the principles and practice of indirect ophthalmoscopy (20D).
- Should know examination of the periphery of retina with the use of a scleral indentation.
- Should have a knowledge of fundus drawing, to document the retinal lesions as viewed.
- Should have a working knowledge of management of common retinal disorders.
- Should have a working knowledge of intravitreal anti VEGF administration.
- A knowledge of laser indirect ophthalmoscopy (LIO) would be valued (as it would be assumed these candidates will progress faster).
Duration: 6 Weeks
Requirements/Eligibility:
- Candidates who have completed post graduate degree
(D.O./F.C.P.S./M.S./equivalent degree ) - recognized by BMDC/IIEI&H) in ophthalmology may apply.
- The candidate must have Binocular single vision (BSV).
- Age should not exceed 45 years.
