  • Course level: All Levels

Description

Cataract is the most common condition resulting in blindness throughout the world. According to the Bangladesh National Blindness & Low Vision survey 2000, there are 4,200 cataract cases per million of population and the rate of cataract operations is 840 per million. There are about 550,000 blind people in Bangladesh due to cataracts. The current CSR (Cataract Surgical Rate) in Bangladesh (957) is considerably below the level required to manage the actual numbers of cataracts in the country (1500-2000). To deal with this problem quality cataract surgery is essential, not only in terms of benefit to the individual patient, but also to increase the overall output of cataract surgeries thereby reducing the present backlog in the country.
