Overview
The Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus department of Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute & Hospital (IIEI&H) provides standard medical and surgical management of various congenital and acquired childhood eye diseases. In addition to this, the department also deals with the management of all kinds of childhood cataracts, and misalignment of the eyes, for all age groups.
The department played a pioneering role in the field of pediatric ophthalmology in Bangladesh and was established in the year 2000.
Eye development starts at birth and it is important to continue monitoring the vision of children throughout their early years. IIEI&H pediatric team is available to provide treatment (when required) with care and attention to help the child on this journey.

Working in Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute & Hospital (oldest and largest tertiary Eye Hospital, centre of excellence) for seventeen years. Now professor, senior consultant and head of pediatric ophthalmology & strabismus. Completed hands on clinical fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus in Pakistan in 2007 and refresher course in England. Also HBP under Foreign Faculty from UC Davis, USA and ORBIS Faculties from India and other countries. Scientific Secretary of Bangladesh Association of Pediatric Ophthalmologists & Strabismologists. Member of AAPOS. Granted Miller/CEF Travel Award of AAPOS 2018 in Washington DC USA. On regular basis attended and presented many scientific papers (free papers) nationally and internationally in Pakistan, China, Australia, UAE, Hong-Kong, England, India, Tokyo, Europe, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. Visited some great hospitals like Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. Visited London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. About 30 publications. Teacher and examiner of DO and MS courses. Now regularly managing 60 patients (full day), 40 patients (half day) daily, and performing 15 pediatric cataract surgeries and 5 strabismus surgeries weekly for the last 15 years. Mentoring clinical fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and Strabismus as departmental head (including foreign fellows with commonwealth scholarship). Doing studies/researches and presently chairman of research committee.

Dr. Naznin is with Islamia for last 10 years. After passing MBBS she received MCPS degree from BCPS in 2013. Subsequently she achieved honorable FCPS Post graduation degree from BCPS in 2014. Dr. Ayesha Akter Shelley has been working in the IIEIH since 2011(11 years). She passed MBBS from Sylhet M. A. G. Osmani medical college in 2006. After completing internship, entered Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, completed one-year honorary training in ophthalmology. Then she joined as medical officer in BNSB Eye Hospital, Mymensingh and experienced herself in the field of ophthalmology by treating thousands of patients, doing surgeries, working in the rural areas and attending in school sight screening program etc. for 1year and 7 months. Then, she joined at IIEIH in 2011, served huge patients, earned improved experience and skillness in ophthalmology by working in this tertiary eye care hospital. In 2018, she achieved honourable FCPS degree from BCPS, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Then she completed a long-term fellowship program in Paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus from IIEIH in 2019. Since then, as a junior consultant, she has been regularly serving many patients of paediatric age group including performing cataract surgeries. She is a member of OSB. She has several publications in national journal as chief author. She is also an Assistant professor, teacher and examiner of DO and MS students of IIEIH.
